A Roman circus with a seating capacity of 5,000 has been uncovered in northern Spain.

 

The Iruña-Veleia site, located 10 kilometers from Vitoria-Gasteiz, housed a Roman circus measuring 280 meters in length that could have had a capacity for around 5,000 people. This was indicated by the excavation leaders after applying remote sensing techniques that allowed them to see the lines of the stands and the outline of the circus. The size of this grand circus demonstrates that Iruña-Veleia had more significance than previously believed.
